CRIBIQ Launch – A new Consortium to accelerate innovation of industrial bioprocesses in the province of Quebec

Montreal, July 20th, 2009 - The Consortium of research and innovations in industrial bioprocesses in Quebec (CRIBIQ) was launched today in the presence of Mrs Geneviève Tanguay, deputy minister of the ministry of the Economic development, Innovation and Export Trade, within the framework of the event " Rendez-vous Québec " which is held in margin of The World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing, a first in Quebec.

Introduced and managed by the CQVB (Centre Québécois de Valorisation des Biotechnologies), the new Consortium has for objective to stimulate and to finance the development of successful and innovative bioprocesses in Quebec, and it, by facilitating the collaboration between industrial partners and public and private research organizations. This Consortium was created with the support of industrialists from the province of Quebec, as well as support of 4 741 828 $ of the ministry of the Economic development, Innovation and Export Trade.

Bring closer the industry to the sources of knowledge - the winning solution

The CRIBIQ currently regroup more than 30 Quebec organizations, among which 3 large companies, 13 SMEs, 8 universities and public research centers, and 8 college centers for technology transfer. Besides supporting financially the innovative research projects introduced between his industrial and institutional members, the CRIBIQ will organize activities to facilitate the transfer of strategic information, and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, technologies and know-how between its member bodies. " There are only advantages to join the CRIBIQ, and it, as much for the companies as for the research centers ", underlines Mr. Laurent Roger Bernier, chaiman of the board of the CRIBIQ and vice-president R&D of DNP Canada inc. Risk sharing, access and development of the research infrastructures, training in industrial research, are only a few advantages of CRIBIQ members.

Support the sustainable development by innovative bioprocesses

" The CRIBIQ aims not only at making Quebec industrial companies more competitive at the international scale in the field of the bioprocesses, but it will also strive to support the efforts of Quebec in terms of sustainable development ", insists on saying Mr. Mohammed Benyagoub, executive director of the CRIBIQ. The CRIBIQ wants an original answer to the challenges of the industry by the implementation of successful processes having a low impact on the environment.
