Developing synthetic biology industrial projects in Quebec

Date: February 29, 2012
Location: Bureaux de Fasken Martineau -Tour de la bourse - Montréal (map)

Synthetic biology is defined as the construction and design of new organisms with biological functions not found in nature.  A virtually infinite possibility offered by synthetic biology allows glimpsing in the development of new bioprocesses on which the bioeconomy of tomorrow will be based. Several companies have already developed successful applications, as for example Amyris or LS9 who use synthetic biology to produce chemicals and fuels, Goodyear who by means of Genencor managed to produce of Bio-Isoprene or OPX Biotechnologies who created BioAcrylic producing micro-organisms.

In spite of these spectacular advances, the use of synthetic biology remains marginal in Quebec. With a strong focus on industrial applications, our objective with this first event totally dedicated on synthetic biology in Quebec is to create awareness that a bioindustry in building around synthetic biology and opportunities exist for both researchers and existing companies.

If you need an accomodation, a special price has been negociated at Delta Centre-Ville, Montreal. Prices will remain valid as long as rooms of the chosen categorie are available (Delta room 124$ - Premium room 144$ and Signature room 174$).
